Owensboro, Ky.  (June 11, 2026) - Green River Distilling Co. will debut its oldest liquid to date with the first in the new limited Distillery Select series, Toasted Double Oak Bourbon.  Green River Distillery Select Toasted Double Oak will debut at the Owensboro distillery on Saturday, June 20 and at the Louisville Tasting Room on Friday, June 26.

The Distillery Select series will showcase some of the best whiskey coming out of this venerable Owensboro distillery.  Through different proofs, finishes, or specific rickhouse selections, Distillery Select releases will celebrate straightforward innovations rooted in tradition.  This 8-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, finished six months in new American toasted oak, represents the oldest Green River bourbon released to date.  

Toasted Double Oak starts with Green River's classic bourbon mashbill - corn (70%), rye (21%) and malted barley (9%).  It is then aged eight years in the distillery's signature clay tile rickhouses.  Thirteen choice barrels were hand selected from prime maturation locations in Warehouse B, where temperatures regularly climb well over 100 degrees.  The whiskey then spent six months in a secondary barrel - light char and medium toast new American oak barrel from Independent Stave Company - selected to bring wood sugars to the forefront.

Bottled at 115.1 proof, Toasted Double Oak Bourbon delivers a richer, more concentrated expression of Green River's core profile.  "The strong fruit flavors of Green River are ideally suited for a double barrel.  The bold flavor pairs perfectly with the additional wood sugars and spice imparted during the extra six months of double barreling," said Dan Callaway, Master Blender, Lofted Spirits.

"The historic Green River Distillery is sitting on some of the best whiskey in Kentucky," Callaway added.  "The Distillery Select series will allow us to take our classic bourbon and rye mashbills to the next level."

Green River Distillery provided us with a media sample of this bottle so we could check out the excitement behind the new series.  And it did not disappoint!  Rich mahagany color in the glass with wafting aromas of vanilla, fruity chewy candies, bakery goodness and cocoa.  Warm and covering mouthfeel brought initial flavors of toasty ciabatta bread, Andes mints, caramel, stone fruits and baking spices.  The finish is completed with some lovely rye spice, caramel candy and the familiar Kentucky hug.  

This 8+ year release from Green River is incredibly exciting, because we think this is a signal of the future of this distillery.  Will we continue to see additional, limited edition releases?  We certainly hope so!

2020 Fieldhouse 301 Red Wine

  This was our first experience with the wines offered by Scout & Cellar of Texas.  They seem to have a little bit of something for just about everyone, especially if you are budget-minded, as most of their offerings are in the $19 - $36 range.  At those prices you can find a daily drinker, no doubt!  This wine is the 2020 Fieldhouse 301 Red Wine (blend) from California.  You would typically find Cabernet Sauvignon in a red blend, but this one is a combination of Zinfandel (48%), Merlot (23%), Petite Sirah (12%), Carignan (9%) and Barbera (8%).   You don't find Carignan in too many California wines, even as a blending grape, so that was interesting to us.  This wine had a great medium purple color with blackberry, coffee bean and menthol nose.  With a lighter-to-medium mouthfeel, flavors of sweet blackberry preserves, roasted coffee beans, pepper and red licorice.  This is not a sugar bomb (if we have given that impression) but it i...
