2018 Youngberg Hill Natasha Pinot Noir

Image
Don't worry wine snobs.  Not all great wines have corks.  The  2018 Youngberg Hill Natasha Pinot Noir is a screwtop but there is nothing screwy about this wine!  Blueberry compote, leather bound book, wet stone and barn dust are prevalent on the nose.  You really get lost in the aromas of this juice and we found our noses in the glass repeatedly!  Berry cobbler, mocha and ripe plum dance on the palate with a firm but not overbearing acidity.  Medium and memorable finish puts this wine in a "must buy" Oregon Pinot category.  It's quite lovely! ABV:  14.0% McMinnville, OR Production:  600 cases Suggested retail price:  $65.00 Drink The Bottles score:  92/100

2012 Arns Winery Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon

Image
2012 was a mixed year for many wine producers.  Some soared and some struggled.  Those who did soar rose way above the competition and this 2012 Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Arns Winery is a fine example of wine made gorgeously and with style.   There is a big contrast in color from the 2011.  This was is very dark and inky, leaving behind a beautiful stamp on the cork.  I decanted this wine for about an hour but couldn't help myself to get lost in the aromas dark fruits, black licorice and damp, loam earthiness.  Solid mouthfeel and the aromas carry over to the same flavors, but add in some cocoa powder and hints of sweet berries on the finish for a mouth covering and memorable drinking experience.   Arns Winery wines are those that you want to take with you to a dinner party.  These are also great wines to share with folks who are not traditionally "wine people", but beware that those folks may think that all wines are this delicious! ABV:  14.8%

2012 Galante Vineyards Ace High Malbec

Image
I think I first started writing about Galante Vinyeards wines in 2012 and I remember really falling for these at the time.  The 2012 Ace High Malbec is another fine example of what Jack and this team do to bring a smile to my face.  Smoke, leather and violet are the dominant aromas and the cherry adds a touch of fruit on the nose but only faintly.  The color of his wine is absolutely gorgeous and after some generous swirling, it shows it's sexy legs.  Full of blackberry and plum flavors, there is distinct and welcoming dill and dried spices marriage that helps make this a beautiful drinking experience.  The tannins are petite and polished and the finish is long and juicy.  Only 531 cases produced! ABV:  13.5% Carmel Valley, California Suggested retail price:  $32.00 Drink The Bottles score:  91/100
